Transfer Students

New to Sterling Re-1 Valley Schools?  Has your student already been identified as gifted in a different school district?

Please notify the School Office where you child is attending here in Sterling, and ask who the GT Coordinator is for that building.  GT Building Coordinators can be found here as well.

Please be sure to make a parent request to the school you are coming from to forward all records related to gifted identification and any specific programming that your child has completed (including accelerated courses, summer classes, etc.)

Allow 45 days for Sterling Re-1 Valley Schools to evaluate the records from the receiving school and determine initial placement for your student.  Please recognize that initial placement may look different on paper than what was happening at a previous school (for example, your child may have been in a 6th grade math class as a 5th grader, but Sterling may start with their high 5th grade math class as that seems to be similar curriculum after review).

We welcome questions!  Explore the programming options page on our website and please feel free to give input based on what you see and read!

If you are transferring from a Colorado District, portability will be honored provided that Colorado rules related to identification have been followed.  Out of state school district transfers may require further evaluation and testing.
