Programming & Services

Programming is dependent on the age of the student and resources and training that has been implemented in each building.  Below are some examples of consistent programming that occurs in Sterling Re-1 Valley Schools in attempt to meet the needs of our advanced learners and gifted students.

Elementary Levels

Grades K-5

At the elementary levels, schools often use level-ability grouping for reading and math.  In addition, cluster grouping is also used within-class to provide appropriate challenge for high-level students.

Teachers have been trained in the use of Depth & Complexity (for more information on this, please click here), and in the Great Books curriculum (click here).  Enrichment is also offered through regional student programming provided in conjunction with Northeast BOCES and East Central BOCES twice per year.  The event for 3rd-6th graders is titled, "Ultimate Celebration," and more information can be found here.

Middle School

Grades 6-8

Middle School students have options for classes that may be cluster grouped by ability.  Their greatest access to challenge, however, comes from enrichment groups implemented school-wide.  Opportunity also exists to participate in Infusion Classes, a platform shared with Northeast BOCES.  A deeper explanation of these courses can be found here.

These students also have the opportunity to participate with Northeast BOCES and East Central BOCES in regional programming as well.  The events for 7th-12th graders are titled, "Ultimate Summit" held during the school year, and "Ultimate Scavenger Hunt," a 3-day event held at the end of May.  Information about these events can be found here.

High School

Grades 9-12

The high school offers concurrent enrollment options, CTE courses and clubs, and a variety of options to meet the needs of advanced learners and gifted students.  Advisory groups have been designed to assist in meeting socio-affective needs of these students as well.

As mentioned above, high school students may also participate in regional events or Infusion Classes in conjunction with Northeast BOCES and/or East Central BOCES.  Links are provided for more information in the middle school section above.
